Abstract

Pemahaman konsep penting sebagai dasar yang membangun cara berpikir siswa untuk memecahkan masalah dan menentukan tindakan yang akan dilakukan. Akan tetapi, kelas VIIIB Sekolah Kristen di Manado belum dapat memahami konsep dengan baik. Berdasarkan identifikasi masalah, siswa belum mampu mengklasifikasikan, menjelaskan, dan memberi contoh. Oleh karena masalah yang ditemukan, dilakukan penelitian dalam upaya meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa dengan menerapkan teknik mind mapping. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas model Pelton dengan dua kali penerapan. Penelitian dilakukan pada Agustus sampai dengan November 2018. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 20 siswa kelas VIIIB salah satu Sekolah Kristen di Manado. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah umpan balik mentor, jurnal refleksi peneliti, lembar observasi mind mapping, dan hasil tes siswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah teknik mind mapping dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa pada indikator memberi contoh, tetapi belum dapat meningkatkan indikator mengklasifikasikan dan menjelaskan. Teknik mind mapping yang diterapkan di dalam penelitian ini berdasarkan langkah-langkah sebagai berikut: 1) memulai dari tengah kertas kosong, 2) menulis kata kunci utama, 3) menggunakan warna yang berbeda pada setiap kategori, 4) menghubungkan cabang utama dengan kata kunci utama 5) membuat cabang melengkung 6) menggunakan kata kunci 7) cabang menyebar ke segala arah./ Conceptual understanding is important as foundation to construct students’ intellection to solve the problem and decide the action will do it. However, VIIIB class at Christian School in Manado have not yet good understanding concept. According to issue identification, the students were not able to classify, explain, and give example. Therefor, the research was conducted as an effort to improve students’ conceptual understanding by the implementation of Mind Mapping technique. The research method used is Classroom Action Research with Pelton’s model with two plan activations. The research was conducted from August until Oktober 2018. The subjects of this research are 20 VIIIB students at a Christian school in Manado. The research instruments used are mentor feedback, researcher reflection journal, mind mapping observation sheet, and students’ test result. The result of this research is the Mind Mapping technique improved students’ conceptual understanding in give examples indicator, but have not improved the classify and explain indicators. Mind Mapping technique in this research was implemented with the following steps: 1) start from the center of a blank paper, 2) write the main keyword, 3) use different colors on every category, 4) connect the main branch with the main keyword, 5) make curved branches, 6) use keywords, 7) spread the branches to all directions.
