Abstract

A Sekolah Kristen Tunas Kasih Tarakan./ Based on the identification process during the teaching and learning time, grade IX-A students in this research appeared to have lack of activeness during the process. Students were identified less active in giving opinions, answering questions, solving problems, and paying attention to the teacher’s explanation. These results were consistently appeared in mentor’s feedback as well as in the peer observation sheet. Students will be categorized as very good when 81-100% of the students involve in the learning process, while they will be categorized as good and fair when 60-80% and 4l-61% of the students involve. The researcher will determined the result through improvement shown during pre and post implementations. In order to overcome this problem, the researcher decided to implement time token model to improve students’ activeness during the learning process. Before implementing this model, the researcher and students made an agreement on the procedures, such as coupon distribution, talking time, and scoring system as the reward. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) and was conducted in twice since August 24, 2018 until October 10, 2018 with 21 grade IX-A students at Tunas Kasih Christian School in Tarakan. Data from this research were obtained through lesson plans, mentor feedback, reflection, mentor (checklist) observation sheet, and student questionnaire. The results of the research show that the implementation of time token model improved students’ activeness through checklist for student activeness indicator. In the first implementation, the results obtained were 67% and categorized as good. Whereas in the second implementation, it was increased to 81% and categorized as very good. The activeness indicators of students also increased from the first to the second implementation. First, the indicator of giving opinion obtains a percentage of 76% and categorized as good and increases to 95% and categorized as very good. Second, the indicator of answering questions obtains a percentage of 90% and categorized as very good and increases to 95% and categorized as very good. Third, thr indicator of paying attention to the teacher's explanation, from 86% very good to 100% very good. Fourth, which is involved in solving the problem, the results are the same in the application of one or both, namely 90%, and categorized as very good. The conclusions obtained from the results of this data analysis indicate that the implementation of the time token model can improve the activeness of the IX A grade students of Tunas Kasih Christian School in Tarakan.
