Abstract

The ability to solve problems of linear equation system of two variables at 8 th grade students in Sekolah Kristen Lentera Ambarawa is so low, it can be seen from the result of students’ test which only showed 3 of 22 students (14%) who pass the passing grade. To overcome the problem, the researcher applied the Student Team Achievement Division model. This study aims to know the implementation of the Student Team Achievement Division model and improvement of the students’ ability to complete the linear equation system of two variables. The research method used is Classroom Action Research based on Pelton’s model with two actions. The study was conducted at SMP Kristen Lentera Ambarawa with VIIIA class as research subjects on September 25th until October 15th 2018. The data sources used were lesson plan, mentor’s feedback form, mentor’s observation form, test form, and reflection journals. The improvement of the students’ ability to complete the linear equation system of two variables using Student Team Achievement Division model in action one had not improve yet but, in action two it improved up to 79%. The steps which were used by the researcher for the Student Team Achievement Division Models are the teacher delivers learning goals, teacher motivated the students, teacher delivered the materials, and then the teacher would divide students into five groups each group consist of four until five students, students will help each others to prepare themselves for quiz, students would do the quiz individually, teacher calculated the total score, and gave appreciation.
