Abstract

Pemahaman konsep merupakan kemampuan untuk memahami suatu gagasan atau makna dari kelompok objek atau kejadian. Pemahaman konsep diperlukan siswa sebagai faktor penting dalam menunjang pembelajaran siswa. Siswa SMP tidak hanya dituntut untuk menghapal suatu arti melainkan memahami konsep abstrak menjadi gagasan yang bermakna. Pada kenyataannya, di kelas VII SMP MCC Tomohon memiliki pemahaman konsep yang rendah terutama pada mata pelajaran Biologi. Penyebabnya adalah karena pengajaran terfokus pada metode ceramah dan siswa enggan bertanya kepada guru. Dengan melihat permasalahan tersebut, peneliti memutuskan untuk menerapkan metode Student Teams Achievement Division. Diharapkan melalui metode ini tujuan penelitian tercapai dan mengetahui tahapan penerapan metode Student Teams Achievement Division dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan Mc Taggart sebanyak tiga siklus pada tanggal 30 September 2015 sampai 21 Oktober 2015. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di sekolah MCC Tomohon dengan subjek penelitian 32 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah lembar observasi checklist, lembar observasi terbuka, lembar angket siswa, lembar wawancara guru pamong, lembar wawancara siswa dan lembar tes siswa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, setiap instrumen mendukung bahwa pembelajaran metode Student Teams Achievement Division dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa. Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode pembelajaran Student Teams Achievement Division dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VII pada mata pelajaran Biologi. / Conceptual Understanding is the ability to understand a concept or meaning of a group of objects or events. Necessarily, Conceptual understanding of the student as an important factor in supporting student learning. Junior high school students are not only required to memorize a sense to understand a concept into the meaningful ideas. In fact, in class VII MCC Tomohon, the students had a low understanding of the concept, especially on the Biology subject. The reason was because the teaching only focused on lecturing and students are reluctant to ask the teacher. By looking at these problems, researchers decided to apply the methods of Student Teams Achievement Division. It was expected that through this method the research objectives achieved and fulfill the stages of the application of Student Teams Achievement Division methods in increasing the student understanding. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) and the three cycles by Mc Taggart Kemmis, on September 30, 2015 through October 21, 2015. The research was conducted in Tomohon MCC School with the subjects of 32 students. The instrument used were the observation checklist sheet, open observation sheets, sheet student questionnaire, teacher mentors interview form, student interview sheet and student test sheet. Based on the analysis, each instrument supported the learning method of Student Teams Achievement Division could enhance the conceptual understanding of the students. Thus, it can be concluded that the learning method of Student Teams Achievement Division can improve the conceptual understanding of seventh grade students in the Biology subject.
