Abstract

Riset ini menguji pengaruh koneksi politik yang diukur melalui kepemilikan pemerintah dan afiliasi politik anggota dewan (board) terhadap kinerja CSR perusahaan yang diukur melalui Bloomberg ESG Score. Dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling untuk memperoleh data observasi sebanyak 224 sampel dari 45 perusahaan di luar sektor keuangan yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia pada periode 2017-2021, dan dengan menggunakan model regresi linier berganda, riset ini menemukan bahwa koneksi politik memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap kinerja CSR perusahaan. Riset ini juga menemukan bahwa koneksi politik melalui kepemilikan pemerintah memiliki pengaruh positif yang signifikan terhadap kinerja CSR perusahaan. Namun, riset ini menemukan bahwa afiliasi politik anggota dewan (board) tidak terbukti memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kinerja CSR perusahaan. Hasil dari penelitian ini memberikan implikasi bahwa kepemilikan pemerintah menjadi salah satu faktor kunci yang mendorong perusahaan untuk memiliki kinerja yang lebih baik dalam aspek CSR/ESG atau aspek non-keuangan lainnya. Sebagai pemegang saham pengendali, pemerintah dapat mendesak perusahaan untuk berkontribusi lebih dalam isu-isu CSR atau ESG, dimana hal ini dapat dilihat dalam penerapan Peraturan Menteri BUMN Nomor PER-09 Tahun 2015 yang mewajibkan BUMN untuk melakukan CSR. / This study examines the effect of political connection proxied by government ownership and political affiliation of board member on firm CSR performance proxied by Bloomberg ESG Score. By using multiple linear regression method on 225 observations from 45 non-financial companies that listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2017-2021 period, this study finds evidence that political connection has a positive association with firm CSR performance. Furthermore, this study highlights that political connection via government ownership has significant positive influence on CSR performance. However, this study does not provide evidence to support the hypothesis of the significant association between board political affiliation and firm CSR performance. These findings suggest that government ownership is one of key factors that encourage company to perform better in CSR/ESG and other non-financial aspects. As controlling shareholder, government could urge and enforce companies to contribute more to CSR or ESG issues, that shown by implementation of SOE Ministry Law Number 09 of 2015 that oblige Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) to engage in CSR activities.
