Abstract

Mathematics holds an important role in preparing students to be good human resources for a country. It is because everyone is dealing with mathematics everyday without realizing it. In learning mathematics, conceptual understanding is an important factor because by understanding the concept, they can apply it in different situations. Different reality was found by the researcher in a class she taught that the students had a conceptual understanding problem. By using NHT method the researcher want to recognize the implementation of using Numbered Heads Together in increasing grade VIII students’ conceptual understanding and to investigate how the implementation of Numbered Heads Together increases the students’ conceptual understanding in learning Function. Classroom Action Research modelled by Kemmis and McTaggart was used in conducting the research in SMP Kristen ABC Makassar. This research lasted in two cycles. Students’ Questionnaire, Students’ Reflection, Mentor Interview, Mentor Feedback, Formative Test, and Personal Reflection Journal were used to collect the data in this research. The research result showed that Numbered Heads Together Method was able to increase the students’ conceptual understanding through conducting all procedures of NHT which were dividing students into group, give assignment, discussion, and presentation. Moreover, the implementation of those procedures was found to be effective by providing a motivation and clear expectation, rules, procedures at the begining of the class./ Matematika berperan penting dalam mempersiapkan siswa-siswi menjadi sumber daya manusia yang baik untuk sebuah negara. Hal ini dikarenakan semua orang menggunakan matematika dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Pemahaman konsep merupakan salah satu aspek penting dalam pembelajaran matematika sebab dengan memahami konsep, siswa dapat mengaplikasikan konsep tersebut ke dalam situasi yang berbeda. Namun pada kenyataanya, peneliti menemukan siswa memiliki masalah pada pemahaman konsep. Dengan penerapan metode NHT, peneliti ingin mengetahui apakah penerapan metode Numbered Heads Together meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VIII dan menginvestigasi bagaimana penerapan metode Numbered Heads Together meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa dalam pembelajaran Fungsi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada SMP Kristen ABC Makassar adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas model Kemmis dan McTaggart. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Instrument yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah Kuisioner Siswa, Refleksi Siswa, Wawancara Mentor, Feedback Mentor, Tes Formatif, Jurnal Refleksi Pribadi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa metode Numbered Heads Together dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa dengan menerapkan seluruh prosedur NHT yaitu membagi siswa ke dalam kelompok, memberikan Tugas, diksusi, dan presentasi. Prosedur NHT dapat diterapkan dengan efektif jika guru memberikan motivasi, ekspektasi yang jelas, peraturan, prosedure kelas, serta konsekuensi pada awal pembelajaran.
