Abstract

Conceptual Understanding is one of an important thing and should be had by students in learning process. However, in the reality, there were still many students lack of mathematics conceptual understanding. It made them difficult to apply the concept of mathematics in solving problems. The researcher used Think Pair Share learning method to know whether or not the implementation of Think Pair Share method enhance the students’ conceptual understanding, and to investigate how the implementation of Think Pair Share method enhance the students’ conceptual understanding. The research method that was used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with model Kemmis and McTaggart. This research lasted in two cycles, that conducted on August 25th – October 9 th 2015. The research involved 11 students in grade VIII at SMP ABC Makassar. The instrument that was used in this research: tests, questionnaires, mentor observation sheets, mentor interview sheet, and personal reflection journals. The gathered data were analyzed and presented by using comparative descriptive statistical analysis for quantitative data, and qualitative descriptive analysis for qualitative data. The research result showed that the implementation of Think Pair Share was able to enhance students’ conceptual understanding in learning Function at SMP ABC. The Think Pair Share method enhanced students’ conceptual understanding in learning Function through conducting all the steps of TPS method thoroughly and properly in the class, which are: think, pair, and share./ Pemahaman konsep merupakan salah satu hal yang penting dan harus dimiliki oleh siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Namun, pada kenyatanya masih banyak siswa yang lemah dalam pemahaman konsep matematika. Hal ini membuat mereka kesulitan untuk mengaplikasikan konsep matematika dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal. Peneliti menggunakan metode belajar Think Pair Share untuk mengetahui apakah implementasi metode Think Pair Share dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa, dan untuk menyelidiki penerapan metode Think Pair Share dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan McTaggart. Penelitian ini berlangsung selama dua siklus, yang dilaksanakan pada tanggal 25 Agustus – 9 Oktober 2015. Penelitian ini melibatkan 11 orang siswa kelas VIII di SMP ABC Makassar. Instrument yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah test, angket, lembar observasi mentor, lembar wawancara mentor, dan jurnal refleksi pribadi. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dan disajikan secara statistik deskriptif komparatif untuk data kuantitatif, dan deskriptif naratif untuk data kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan Think Pair Share telah meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa dalam pembelajaran Fungsi di SMP ABC. Metode Think Pair Share dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa dengan melaksanakan semua langkah pada metode TPS yaitu think, pair, dan share secara menyeluruh dan dengan seksama.
