Abstract

Learning English requires a strong vocabulary knowledge foundation. Without vocabulary knowledge, students will be hindered from expressing thoughts, constructing sentences, and attaining language proficiency. It could also hinder active participation in the classroom, which differs from the goal of the ideal teaching and learning process in the classroom. The call to be active in the classroom, rooted in the Bible, aligns with the goal of Christian education, emphasizing that everyone is created to glorify God. Man is called to serve, glorify, and reflect God's capacity through diligence and activeness in the classroom. Therefore, the research objectives are to explain the impacts of low vocabulary knowledge in the classroom, the importance of vocabulary learning, and how vocabulary games enhance students' vocabulary using qualitative descriptive methods. Results show the use of vocabulary game methods can address these issues and empower students to become more active in the classroom and improve their vocabulary knowledge. Future Christian teachers should enhance their vocabulary, diversify the games, and increase the game difficulty to sharpen students’ knowledge. Future researchers are recommended to investigate the causes of low student engagement in vocabulary learning, especially in Christian English education. Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris memerlukan pondasi pengetahuan kosakata yang kuat. Tanpa pengetahuan kosakata, siswa akan kesulitan mengungkapkan pemikiran, menyusun kalimat, dan mencapai kemahiran berbahasa. Hal ini juga dapat menghambat partisipasi aktif di dalam kelas, yang bukanlah tujuan dari proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang ideal di dalam kelas. Panggilan untuk menjadi aktif di dalam kelas, berakar dalam Alkitab, sejalan dengan tujuan pendidikan Kristen, menekankan bahwa setiap orang diciptakan untuk memuliakan Allah. Manusia dipanggil untuk melayani, memuliakan, dan mencerminkan kapasitas Allah melalui ketekunan dan keaktifan di dalam kelas. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian adalah menjelaskan dampak rendahnya pengetahuan kosakata di dalam kelas, pentingnya pembelajaran kosakata, dan bagaimana permainan kosakata meningkatkan pengetahuan kosakata siswa dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan metode permainan kosakata dapat mengatasi masalah ini dan memberdayakan siswa untuk menjadi lebih aktif di dalam kelas serta meningkatkan pengetahuan kosakata mereka. Guru Kristen masa depan harus meningkatkan pengetahuan kosakata mereka, memvariasikan permainan, dan meningkatkan kesulitan permainan untuk mengasah pengetahuan siswa. Peneliti masa depan direkomendasikan untuk menyelidiki penyebab rendahnya keterlibatan siswa dalam pembelajaran kosakata, terutama dalam pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di dalam sekolah Kristen.
