Abstract

However, such exploration is crucial for a deeper understanding of fathers' beliefs, capabilities, and readiness in parenting their children. This study addresses this gap by investigating FSE among fathers raising children with ASD through a phenomenological approach. Interviews were conducted with three fathers (aged 43-45) who have children with ASD (aged 6-19). Seven themes were derived from the dimensions of the FSE theory proposed by Sevigny (2016). The collected data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings reveal that the participants exhibit strong beliefs in various aspects of their FSE, notwithstanding the unique challenges they face in their roles as fathers of children with ASD. These findings have theoretical and practical implications for understanding the paternal role within families of children with ASD, emphasizing the importance of support, communication, and adaptability in meeting the needs of these children.
