Abstract

Environmental problems in Africa related to used clothing waste from the US fast fashion industry have had a serious impact on local ecosystems. The government's negligence in making decisions, which prioritizes growth without regard to environmental impacts, has caused African communities to lose their right to live in a healthy, clean and safe environment. This research aims to analyze the impact of used US fast fashion clothing in the African region, as well as the efforts of local communities and international non-state institutions in reducing its negative impact on the environment there. The theories and concepts applied in this research involve Green Political Theory with the use of the concepts of Ecocentrism,Environmental Justice, and Limiting Growth. A descriptive qualitative research method was used to highlight the serious problems caused by US fast fashion second-hand clothing products in the African environment, the driving factors for their presence in Africa, and the environmental damage to local communities. Waste from used fast fashion clothing products contaminates rivers in various partsof Africa and accumulates in fields, forming clothing hills that are a source of disease for local communities. This event encouraged local communities andinternational non-state organizations to work together to address environmental problems in Africa by building public awareness through campaigns, organizing environmental activities to clean up the environment, and recycling waste.
