Abstract

The phenomenon of digital nomadism has emerged in Indonesia alongside technological advancements and shifts in work styles influenced by COVID-19. Millennials have adopted flexible working styles by leveraging digital technology and working from various locations. The aim of this research is to understand the interactivity of digital nomads working in Indonesia and analyze the factors that support or hinder it. The research methodology employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a phenomenological orientation, involving interviews with digital nomads, observations, and documentation. Data analysis followed Miles & Huberman's interactive analysis approach, focusing on data collection, reduction, presentation, and verification. In the study of the digital nomad experience in Indonesia and its surroundings, factors such as time zone differences and technical constraints, such as unstable internet connections, were identified as barriers to maintaining efficiency and coordination. Additionally, varying weather conditions in different regions of Indonesia significantly impacted the comfort of work, especially for digital nomads who frequently change locations. Social and cultural aspects also played a crucial role in the digital nomad experience. Other factors influencing the digital nomad experience included the uncertainty of working hours and policies from the company or client's home country. Despite these challenges that may affect the work-life balance, digital nomadism still enables high flexibility and adaptability. The research indicates that the phenomenon of digital nomadism not only provides benefits to individual workers but also creates new business opportunities. The emergence of the idea to provide co-working spaces as facilities for digital nomads, including internet access, work equipment, and supportive working environments, is a tangible manifestation of this trend. Digital nomadism remains a viable choice that offers freedom and opportunities in the evolving landscape of work.
