Abstract

The symptoms of chronic diseases such as asthma often lead to deterioration of quality of life. Frequency of asthma symptoms can be differentiated according to the level of asthma control. This paper reviews the data that will show the correlation between both variables, particularly in patients of Siloam Hospital Karawaci Building B. The purpose of this research is to assess the association between level of asthma control and quality of life among patients of Siloam Hospital Karawaci Building B. This research is a diagnostic test using a cross-sectional method. Sample size calculation was done using the categorical comparative analytical formula and a result of 60 samples were obtained. There are several questionnaires including: The Asthma Control Test Questionnaire (M. Thomas et al 2009), The Medical Outcomes Survey Short Form 36 Questionnaire (J. Ware et al 1992) and Perceived Stress Scale (C. Gross et al 2016). Research data will be tabulated using Microsoft Excel 2013. Statistical analysis is going to be performed using the SPSS 21 program. Bivariate analysis of the research on 60 respondents revealed that there is a significant association between the level of asthma control and quality of life among patients of Siloam Hospital Karawaci Building B (p<0.05). However, from the Chi Square test, there is no significant association from statistic aspects between age, gender, educational degree, social economy & stress level with the respondents’ quality of life (p>0.05). Asthma patients with uncontrolled level of asthma have 10 times higher risk to obtain a bad quality of life when compared to asthma patients with controlled level of asthma (OR=10) / Gejala-gejala penyakit kronik seperti asma dapat menyebabkan penurunan kualitas hidup.
