Abstract

The Joang 45 Museum is a symbol of the struggle for Indonesia's independence in 1945, playing a role in strengthening national identity through its collection of artifacts, documents, and historical narratives. The building has undergone transformations from a Dutch hotel to a headquarters for the struggle, and various functional changes until it became a museum officially inaugurated in 1974. In facing the demands of the times, the Joang 45 Museum strives to renew itself to remain relevant to society, with a focus on interior design that utilizes the concept of social space. The aim of this approach is not only to enrich visitors' experiences through social interaction but also to increase participation in the process of learning history. Data collection methods used include participation observation, interviews, surveys, and using DepthmapX software. A qualitative single case study approach was used to analyze effective design strategies in creating social space within the Joang 45 Museum, addressing spatial limitations while considering various aspects influencing social interaction. The results of this research are expected to contribute to the development of museums as dynamic and meaningful public spaces in strengthening the nation's identity. The implementation of the Joang 45 Museum design has successfully created an engaging and educational experience. Strategies including modern technology and effective spatial arrangements support the museum's goal of conveying relevant and compelling historical narratives to today's generation. Positive feedback from collaborators, practitioners, and visitors confirms the success of the design strategy in creating social space within the museum.
