Abstract

The ubiquity of mobile device nowadays makes it possible for people nowadays to work anywhere at any point of time. With this, many employees now implement using mobile devices to help with their work duties. As the effort to finish a work becomes easier with the help of mobile device, but the amount of time working has increased. And with every employee owning a mobile device, this creates an opportunity for workers to bring work home, and finish it at home, but at the same time employer expectations also rises as flexibility is given. This research of mobile device usage was carried out in Indonesia, majoring Jakarta respondents and having workers that uses mobile device with a minimum of high school graduates as a subject. The object was to find out if mobile device usages has a relationship with productivity, employer expectations thus impacting work-life balance. A total of 170 samples of quantitative research were collected among Jakarta Residence. The method of data analysis was supported using the Partial Least Square(PLS) method and using the program SmartPLS 3.0 to process the data. The results have shown that mobile device usages have a positive relation with increasing productivity, and flexibility has a positive relation to employer’s expectation. And there is also a negative relation when employer expectations rise towards the work-life conflict. The highlight of this research is that the results show that the increase of productivity does not have any significant relationship with increase of employer expectations, while the usage of mobile device for work at home also does not have a negative relation with the increase of work-life conflict. This research also contains solutions that might help with managers tackling problems that are caused by mobile device usages.
