Abstract

Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease that can cause death. In America, there is an increment about 17.771 deaths from cardiovascular diseases within 2011-2014. The increased mortality rate makes it important to treat hypertension. Anti-hypertensive drugs only have a temporary effect and it needs to be administered at all times. Another option that can be considered is the use of music as therapy. Researchers want to investigate the music effect in blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients in Indonesia. To assess the effect of music in blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients The research design used is experimental study with analytic cohort prospective design study. The research was conducted to hypertensive patients at Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam, Tangerang on February May 2018. The sample were divided into control and experiment groups. Then blood pressures were measured before and after intervention for 14 minutes. This process was repeated for 5 Haris. Data was analyzed by using SPSS 24 with and Mann U Whitney. There was reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Test proved that in systolic blood pressure, there was a statistically significant difference between control and experiment group (p value = 0.047). However, it was not shown in diastolic blood pressure (p value = 0.500). There is a significant difference from changes of systolic blood pressure in control and experiment group. This finding supports the using anti-hypertensive drugs and listening to classical music can make a further decrease of blood pressure compared to using drugs only / Hipertensi adalah penyakit kardiovaskular yang dapat menyebabkan kematian.
