Abstract

Early childhood is referred to as the golden period during which various physical, cognitive, linguistic, social emotional, disciplined, and independent abilities develop. Therefore, it is important if from an early age need to instill the value of independence and discipline in children. Independent and discipline is a part of Montessori's concern. The Montessori method gives full freedom and support to the child's independence and discipline through observation by allowing children to choose their own activities and when the child is interested and focused. Then the child will be responsible for his choice. The purpose of this study is to describe the application of practical life in the Montessori method to improve the independence and discipline of students, analyze the increase in independence and discipline of students during the application of practical life. This research method is classroom action research with 33 children and uses rubrics for evaluation criteria with observation techniques. Analysis of this study based on the average value of indicators of independence and discipline as a whole shows the development of students from the first cycle to the third cycle, with the achievement of indicators of success in the third cycle that is 71% for independence and 70% for discipline. The results of this study indicate that applying practical life in the Montessori method can increase the independence and discipline of students, the development of independence and discipline of students after researchers as teachers apply practical life in the Montessori method were significantly increased. / Masa anak usia dini disebut sebagai masa keemasan yang mana pada masa ini berkembangnya berbagai kemampuan fisik, kognitif, bahasa, sosial emosional, disiplin, dan kemandirian. Karena itu, penting jika sejak usia dini perlu ditanamkan nilai kemandirian dan kedisiplinan pada anak. Mandiri dan disiplin merupakan bagian yang menjadi perhatian oleh Montessori. Metode Montessori memberikan kebebasan dan dukungan penuh pada kemandirian dan kedisiplinan anak melalui observasi dengan membiarkan anak memilih kegiatan sendiri dan saat anak tertarik serta fokus. Maka anak akan bertanggung jawab atas pilihannya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan penerapan practical life dalam metode Montessori untuk meningkatkan kemandirian dan kedisiplinan siswa, menganalisis peningkatan kemandirian dan kedisiplinan siswa selama penerapan practical life. Metode penelitan ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dengan subyek 33 anak dan menggunakan rubrik untuk kriteria penilaian dengan teknik observasi. Analisis penelitian ini berdasarkan nilai ratarata indikator kemandirian dan kedisiplinan secara keseluruhan menunjukkan perkembangan siswa dari siklus pertama hingga siklus ketiga, dengan tercapainya indikator keberhasilan di siklus ketiga yaitu 71% untuk kemandirian dan 70% untuk kedisiplinan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa menerapkan practical life dalam metode Montessori dapat meningkatkan kemandirian dan kedisiplinan siswa, perkembangan kemandirian dan kedisiplinan siswa setelah peneliti selaku guru menerapkan practical life dalam metode Montessori ternyata meningkat signifikan.
