Abstract

Fakultas ilmu pendidikan di Universitas XYZ (CT) sebagai salah satu program studi yang terintegrasi dengan kehidupan asrama, menyediakan fasilitas pendampingan mentoring bagi mahasiswa untuk mendukung adaptasi, pengembangan diri dan sosial, serta mendorong keberhasilan studi. CT menerima mahasiswa dari berbagai daerah di seluruh Indonesia salah satunya adalah mahasiswa afirmasi dari Pemprov Papua dalam rangka membangun sumber daya manusia di Papua. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hambatan dan permasalahan pada mahasiswa asal Papua selama kuliah di CT, mengetahui mentoring sebagai program pendampingan yang dapat mendukung retensi mahasiswa asal Papua, serta mengidentifikasi peran mentor sebagai pemimpin pelayan dalam proses mentoring. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Penentuan narasumber dilakukan dengan purposive dan snowball sampling sebanyak sembilan narasumber. Alat pengumpulan data berupa wawancara dan studi dokumen. Adapun pengujian keabsahan data dilakukan dengan validasi dari ahli dan triangulasi narasumber. Data dianalisis dengan mengorganisir, membuat memo, mendeskripsikan, mengklasifikasi, menafsirkan, dan menyajikan data. Dari hasil penelitian didapati bahwa mahasiswa asal Papua mengalami drop out sebesar 34% pada angkatan 2010-2015 yang disebabkan oleh masalah non-akademik dan akademik yang dipicu oleh karakteristik budaya yang menyebabkan mereka kesulitan untuk beradaptasi. Pemahaman akan karakteristik budaya mahasiswa asal Papua mengarahkan pada kebutuhan relasional mahasiswa asal Papua yang dapat dipenuhi oleh konsep kepemimpinan pelayan Kristen di dalam program mentoring./ The Faculty of Education at XYZ University (CT) as one of the study program integrated with boarding life, provide mentoring facilities for students to support adaptation, personal and social development, also encourage the successful study. CT accepts students from various regions in Indonesia, one of which is an affirmation student from the Papua Provincial Government in order to develop human resources in Papua. This research aims to know the challenges and problems of Papuan students while studying at CT, find out a mentoring program that can support the retention of Papuan students, and identifying the role of mentors as servant leader in the mentoring process.This research is a qualitative research with case study design. Determination of the informants is done by purposive and snowball sampling as many as nine informants. Data collection tools consist of interviews and document studies. The data validity testing is carried out with validation from experts and resource triangulation. The data is analyzed by organizing, making memos, describing, classifying, completing, and presenting data. The research shows that Papuan students dropped out by 34% in the class of 2010-2015 caused by non-academic and academic problems triggered by cultural characteristics that making them difficult to adapt. An understanding of the cultural characteristics of Papuan students is directed at the relational needs of Papuan students who can be supported by the concept of Christian servant leadership in mentoring programs.
