Abstract

Civilization keeps on endlessly progressing and society has been more mindful of the importance of treating others equally regardless of the identity backgrounds, notably race, ethnicity, religion, gender and sex orientation. Some people raised awareness campaigns to uphold equality, trying to conquer discrimination and influence people to value personal quality of a person rather than stereotyping the background. For instance, a workplace of any kind of occupation needs to have the place for anyone who wants to involve in and bring out one’s full potential. The objective of this study was to explore the effect of gender diversity in workplace on employee performance at one of the companies in North Sumatra, Indonesia which is PT Prabu Jaya. This quantitative research collected primary data by conducting a survey to 42 employees of the company and was pretested for the validity and reliability prior to spreading the final questionnaire. The determination test result of this research shows that gender diversity in workplace gives impact on employee performance for 55%, whereas the rest 45% impact comes from other factors which may be compensation, rewarding program, performance appraisal, leadership, or training program. At the end, the final result is gender diversity in workplace has effect on employee performance at PT Prabu Jaya./Peradaban senantiasa berkembang dan masyarakat sudah semakin menyadari akan pentingnya memperlakukan orang lain secara setara, tanpa memandang latar belakang identitasnya khususnya ras, etnis, agama, jenis kelamin dan orientasi seksual. Beberapa orang menyelenggarakan kampanye untuk meningkatkan kesadaran akan kesetaraan, berusaha melawan diskriminasi dan mendorong orang-orang untuk menghargai kualitas pribadi seseorang daripada menilai seseorang berdasarkan latar belakangnya. Misalnya, tempat kerja dari segala jenis pekerjaan perlu menyediakan tempat bagi siapapun yang mau melibatkan diri dan mengeluarkan potensinya secara penuh. Objektif dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi efek dari keberagaman jenis kelamin di tempat kerja pada performa karyawan di salah satu perusahaan di Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, yakni PT Prabu Jaya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dan mengadakan survei pada 42 karyawan dari perusahaan tersebut untuk mengumpulkan data primer. Pra-riset dilakukan untuk menguji validitas dan reliabilitas sebelum menyebarkan produk akhir kuesioner. Hasil dari salah satu teknik tes yang bernama coefficient of determination dari penelitian ini adalah keberagaman jenis kelamin di tempat kerja memberikan dampak sebesar 55% terhadap kinerja karyawan, sedangkan 45% lainnya berasal dari faktor lain seperti kompensasi, penghargaan, penilaian kinerja, kepemimpinan, dan program pelatihan karyawan. Hasil akhir dari penelitian ini adalah keberagaman jenis kelamin di tempat kerja memiliki dampak pada kinerja karyawan di PT Prabu Jaya.
