Abstract
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a disorder that happens during the developmental period characterized by deficiencies in social reciprocity and communication, which is usually accompanied by repetitive and limited behaviour. Individuals with ASD needs lifelong assistance from their closest family, especially mothers, who play a big role in the parenting process. One of the challenges in taking care for individuals with ASD is to be tolerant, sincere, and accepting the ASD condition positively. If a mother can accept her child’s condition, it will help them to know her child’s development and identify the child’s needs. This qualitative study uses phenomenological approach by doing interview and observation to collect data from the respondents. This study was conducted on four mothers who have children with ASD aged 12-19 years and are still in a marriage relationship. The results of this study indicate that the process of parental acceptance occurs in the respondents, but each respondent is at different stages of the process. The parental acceptance of each respondent is influenced by several factors of parental acceptance and is also shown in various forms of parental acceptance. / Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) merupakan gangguan selama periode perkembangan yang ditandai dengan kekurangan dalam hubungan timbal balik sosial dan komunikasi, yang biasa disertai oleh perilaku yang berulang dan terbatas. Individu dengan ASD memerlukan bantuan seumur hidup yang berasal dari keluarga terdekat terutama ibu sebagai sosok yang berperan besar dalam proses pengasuhan. Salah satu tantangan dalam mengasuh individu dengan ASD adalah agar bisa berlapang dada, ikhlas, dan menerima kondisi ASD secara positif. Apabila seorang ibu bisa menerima kondisi anaknya maka akan lebih mudah untuk mengetahui perkembangan anak dan mengidentifikasi kebutuhan anak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif jenis fenomenologi dengan metode wawancara dan observasi untuk mengumpulkan data. Penelitian dilakukan kepada empat ibu yang memiliki anak dengan ASD berumur 12-19 tahun dan masih dalam hubungan pernikahan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa proses parental acceptance (penerimaan orangtua) terjadi pada subyek namun masing-masing subyek berada pada tahapan yang berbeda-beda. Proses parental acceptance yang ditempuh oleh masing-masing subyek dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor dan ditunjukkan dalam berbagai macam bentuk.
