Abstract

OR 1,31, 95%CI 0,65-2,62) / The prevalence of constipation range between 1,4% to 32,9% in Asia, and there is no data about constipation in Indonesia. RISKESDAS reported that there was an increase in the low physical activity of about 20,1% on 2013 became 40,7% on 2018 in Banten. There was a contradiction in previous research, and the lack of research on young adult subjects on the relationship between physical activity and constipation, also there was contradiction of the association between gender and constipation. This research aims to get a picture of the association between physical activity and constipation and to get a picture of the association between gender and constipation. In this research, a cross-sectional study on 192 college students and staff of FK UPH aged 19 to 25 years old was done. The research samples were given a questionnaire that was filled individually, which contain questions to identify gender, physical activity status was measured by the GPAQ, and constipation was diagnosed if it fulfils the Rome III constipation criteria. The analysis between variables was tested with the chi-square method. The proportion of constipation on inactive individuals were 15,1% and the findings of individuals who were not actively doing physical the activity has a greater probability of constipation than individuals who were actively doing physical activity (OR 3,78, 95%CI 1,93-7,41), and the findings of the gender had no significant effect on constipation (OR 1,31, 95%CI 0,65-2,62).
