Abstract

Kayu adalah salah satu produk dari alam yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan material untuk membuat bangunan. Akan tetapi karena kayu merupakan material dari alam dan memiliki banyak sekali jenisnya, maka kekuatannya sulit untuk kita tentukan hanya dengan melihatnya. Maka dari itu untuk menjadikan kayu sebagai material bangunan sangatlah penting untuk menentukan mutu dari kayu itu. Untuk menentukan mutu dari suatu kayu dapat diketahui melalui nilai Modulus of Elasticity (MOE). Nilai dari MOE didapatkan dari hasil uji bending. Alat uji khusus untuk menguji kayu tidaklah mudah didapatkan, maka dari itu dibuatlah alat penguji mutu kayu dari alat California Bearing Ratio (CBR) yang telah disusun sebagai alat penguji mutu kayu yang sederhana dengan mengacu kepada ASTM D198. Dalam penelitian ini, langkah yang dilakukan adalah mengkalibrasi alat yang telah dibuat lalu dilakukan pengujian dengan kayu meranti. Penelitian ini ingin menunjukkan bahwa masin grading pada dasarnya relatif sederhana, sehingga pada penelitian ini akan digunakan alat CBR sebagai pemberi beban. Apabila konsep ini dapat diterapkan, maka akan sangat baik untuk kemajuan kontruksi kayu di Indonesia karena dapat dilakukannya penelitian mengenai kayu lebih lanjut tanpa perlu mencari mesin spesifik khusus untuk menguji kayu. / Wood is a product from nature that can be used as a building material. However, because wood is a material from nature and has many types, its strength is difficult for us to determine just by looking at it. Therefore, to make wood as a building main material, it is very important to determine the quality of the wood. To determine the quality of a wood, it can be seen through the value of Modulus of Elasticity (MOE). The value of the MOE is obtained from the bending test results. A specific testtool for testing wood is not easy to find, therefore a wood quality tester from the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) has been developed as a simple wood quality tester with reference to ASTM D198. In this study, the steps taken were calibrating the tools that had been made and then testing them with meranti wood. This study wants to show that grading is basically relatively simple, so that in this study CBR will be used as a load. If this concept can be applied, it will be very good for the development of wood construction in Indonesia because further research on wood can be carried out without the need to look for specific machines for testing wood.
