Abstract

Majalah Newsweek merupakan majalah berita mingguan yang cukup di minati oleh khalayak global. Newsweek salah satu majalah internasional dengan jumlah oplah ke-dua terbesar setelah TIME dengan jumlah pembaca sebesar 1.524.989. Newsweek mencakup berita nasional meliputi kejadian terkini di Amerika dan internasional, salah satunya berita mengenai bencana alam. Setiap media massa memiliki agenda tertentu dalam pemberitaan, Majalah Newsweek sebagai media global memiliki agenda media dalam pemberitaan, khususnya bencana alam. Dalam konsep agenda setting diyakini bahwa setiap media massa mempunyai agenda tertentu yang ingin disampaikan kepada publik sehingga publik akan menganggap hal tersebut juga penting. Agenda Setting memiliki beberapa agenda, salah satunya adalah agenda media. Agenda suatu media dapat dilihat dari beberapa unsur yaitu Visibility, Audience Salience, dan Valence. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis isi dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan adalah purposif sampling dengan populasi yaitu kriteria semua artikel bencana alam pada Newsweek periode Januari 2001—Desember 2011 yaitu sebanyak 48 artikel. Analisa yang dilakukan adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana agenda Majalah Newsweek terhadap pemberitaan bencana alam periode Januari 2001—Desember 2011. Hasil Penelitian unsur visibility, jenis dan lokasi kejadian bencana yang diliput yaitu gempa bumi dan wilayah Asia.Pemberitaan bencana alam di Majalah Newsweek menempati halaman tengah dan mendapat jumlah halaman yaitu 1 hingga 3 halaman serta diletakkan pada rubrik eachregion or country. Unsur Audience Salience, sumber berita yang kredibel adalah Pemerintah dan hampir seluruh pemberitaan memiliki nilai berita dampak (impact). Berita yang ditonjolkan mengenai kehancuran dan kerusakan akibat. Unsur Valence, penyajian berita bencana diberitakan dengan orientasi pemberitaan netral atau seimbang. Saran untuk penelitian selanjutnya, diharapkan peneliti dapat meneliti mengenai agenda media lebih dalam lagi dan tidak melihat dari sisi agenda media saja melainkan juga melihat dari sisi agenda publik. / Newsweek magazine is a weekly news magazine in the interest of quite a global audience. This is because one of Newsweek international magazine with a circulation number of the second-largest after the TIME with the amount of 1,524,989 readers. Newsweek covers national news covering current events in America and internationally, one of the news about natural disasters. Each media has a certain agenda in the news, Newsweek Magazine as a global media correspondents who have an agenda in the news media, especially natural disasters. In the concept of agenda setting is believed that every mass media have a particular agenda to be conveyed to the public so the public will assume it is also important. Setting the agenda has some agenda, one of which is the media agenda. Agenda of a medium can be seen from some elements of the Visibility, Audience salience, and Valence. The method used was content analysis with quantitative approach. Data collection techniques are performed with a population that is purposive sampling criteria of all natural disasters in the Newsweek article the period January 2001- December 2011 as many as 48 articles. An analysis is to find out how the agenda of the news magazine Newsweek disaster period January 2001-December 2011. Research elements of visibility, type of disaster that is covered by an earthquake while the scene, the area is the Asia Liput. Natural disasters in the news magazine Newsweek occupies a central courtyard and got a page number that is 1 to 3 pages and put on a rubric eachregion or country. Audience element salience, a credible news source is the government and almost all the news has news value impact (impact). Will find news about the destruction and damage. Valence elements, presenting the news of the disaster proclaimed by the preaching of a neutral or balanced orientation. Suggestions for further research are expected investigators to examine the agenda in the media over again and not see from the media agenda but also the view of the public agenda.
