Abstract

Kesimpulan: Sebagai kesimpulan, ditemukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan mean lingkar pinggang, RLPTB, dan IMT pada kelompok yang mengonsumsi kopi dan tidak mengonsumsi kopi./ Introduction: Data from International Coffee Organisation reveals that coffee consumption in Indonesia within the year 2000-2016 period has increased significantly by 174%. Coffee consumption is related with weight gain and lose so it is often is associated with obesity. Body Mass Index (BMI) has been commonly used to measure obesity. However, there’re limitations to its application. As a result, more specific waist circumference and waist-to-height ratio indicator are used to study the distribution of fat in the body and its implication for metabolic disorder. Aim: The purpose of this research is to find out the relationship between coffee consumption with obesity in Pelita Harapan University Medical Student. Method: This research applies a cross-sectional study design. The sample consisted of 196 UPH Medical Faculty students and was selected using a non-random sampling technique. The results of the research were processed with the IBM SPSS program version 23.0 and using the Mann U-Whitney analysis method. Results: Of the total 196 respondents, 102 people (52%) had the habit of consuming coffee while 94 other people (48%) did not. The mean anthropometry in the group that consumed coffee successively has a waist circumference of 83.78 ± 12.13, RLPTB 0.51 ± 0.07, and BMI 25.5 ± 4.98. Meanwhile, the mean anthropometry in the group that did not consume coffee consecutively were 73.31 ± 8.51 (waist circumference), 0.46 ± 0.05 (RLPTB), and 21.51 ± 3.43 (BMI). The Mann U- Whitney test yields p < 0,001 for each anthropometric mean. Conclusion: In conclusion, it was found that there were differences in mean waist circumference, WtHR, and BMI in groups that consumed coffee and did not consume coffee.
