Abstract

Kata Kunci: video game, first person shooter, waktu reaksi. / Background: Video games have been played since 1970 to present time and video games are one of the activities all people do to entertain themselves ranging from kids to adults with an average of 5 hours of gaming per week or more. First person shooter video games requires the player to have high concentration, fast reactions and good motoric and visual ability to be able to play well. Although previously first person shooter research on reaction time has been reported at 30 and 60 minutes using a computer, it has never been done at 15 minutes which is a shorter time duration and has been done by using a mobile phone. Aim: To determine the effect of playing a first person shooter on a mobile phone on reaction time at 15, 30 and 60 minute intervals for UPH FK students. Method: This study uses the cohort study design. Samples for this study would be taken from the college students of University of Pelita Harapan using random sampling, targeting 40 college students as the subjects. Data collection using the ruler drop test will be done during January-April 2020. The results of the data were processed using Wilcoxon using the program of IMB SPSS 22.0 version. Result: There is significant mean reaction time reduction on subjects playing First Person Shooter video game for 30 minutes (15,70±11,80 miliseconds; p<0,001) and 60 minutes (18,93±9,29 miliseconds; p<0,001), but no significant mean reaction time reduction was found on subjects playing First Person Shooter video game for 15 minutes (p=0,214). Conclusion: There is a significant difference in shortening of reaction time with playing First Person Shooter video game for 30 minutes and 60 minutes. Keywords: video game, first person shooter, reaction time.
