Abstract

Komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh dokter dan pasien terjadi bukan hanya untuk membangun relasi interpersonal melainkan bertujuan untuk mengambil tindakan medis sehingga dibutuhkan komunikasi yang baik untuk mencapai keselarasan makna. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola komunikasi yang terjadi antara dokter dan pasien beserta faktor-faktor yang perlu dipertimbangkan ketika dokter menyampaikan hasil diagnosis penyakit terminal kepada pasien anak berdasarkan teori Manajemen Makna Terkoordinasi dan teori dasar komunikasi antar pribadi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bagaimana pola komunikasi yang terjadi ketika hasil diagnosis disampaikan. Mengkomunikasikan hasil diagnosis merupakan satu episode dalam naskah kehidupan seseorang yang akan mempengauhi episode-episode selanjutnya sehingga perlu diperhatikan beberapa faktor untuk menentukan variasi verbal dan nonverbal yang akan digunakan. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi cara dokter menyampaikan yaitu orangtua, psikologi kognitif anak, dan latar belakang anak. Pola yang diterapkan adalah penyampaian dengan bertahap dimulai dari menyampaikannya kepada orangtua kemudian bertanya kepada anak apa yang mereka ketahui mengenai konsep penyakit terminal bila perlu meluruskan konsep penyakit terminal kemudian memberitahu hasil diagnosis kepada anak berdasarkan konsep yang benar. Pola yang digunakan sama terhadap setiap pasien, perbedaannya adalah variasi simbol verbal dan nonverbal yang dokter gunakan saat menyampaikan hasil diagnosis./ Communications between doctor and patient occurs not only to build an interpersonal communication but rather to take medical actions. So, it takes a good communication skill to deal with the patient. The purpose of this study is to describe the communication pattern between doctor and pediatric cancer patient by considering the factors that affected the way doctor deliver the diagnosis result to their terminal pediatric cancer patients based on Coordinated Management of Meaning Theory and an interpersonal communication basic theory. The way doctor delivering a diagnostic result to the pediatric patient with terminal disease is influenced by several factors which are: parent, cognitive psychological, and the background of the patient. Doctors choose to deliver it step by step start from their parents, then asking what they know about cancer, if necessary straighten the concept of terminal disease and go to the diagnostic result based on the patient’s understanding. The pattern is applied the same to each patients, the difference is the using of variation verbal and non verbal symbols.
