Abstract

Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa dimensi lain dari globalisasi dapat membantu meningkatkan kelestarian lingkungan hidup Indonesia./Economic globalization is one of the four dimensions of globalization, which greatly impacts Indonesia’s textile industry. Economic globalization is also why many businesses outsource their manufacturing process’ to Indonesia due to low production costs. Indonesia has gained numerous benefits from accepting economic globalization, such as job opportunities, increased export income, FDI, etc. However, the increase in textile production throughout the years has created a new problem for Indonesia. Having most industries located in West Java, the wastewater emitted to the Citarum river has long exceeded its capacity, making the Citarum river the most polluted river globally. This research uses Indonesia’s textile industry as the case study to discover the ways the Indonesian government regulations on environmental matters influence environmental sustainability in Indonesia’s textile industry and discover how globalization affected environmental sustainability in Indonesia’s textile industry. The research uses a qualitative approach, whereas the nature is explanatory in which it uses an inductive reasoning method. All data used in this research are collected through secondary data. Lastly, this research uses the neoliberalism theory, in which I find Indonesia’s inconsistency in enforcing its regulations despite its well written and adequate regulations. Hence, I argue the need for a sustainable environment in the textile industry and the need of cooperation with non-state actors. Moreover, the findings that other dimensions of globalization can help improve Indonesia’s environmental sustainability.
