Abstract

With the existence of new media along with internet, people can easily and quickly communicate with others through computer-mediated-communication. With these changes, people can upload their writings, pictures, videos and the likes in which blog is one of the most popular forms. Food blog is a type of blog where food bloggers review about their culinary experience. However, albeit dominated by contents in regard to food and drinks, food bloggers are actually managing desired impressions through self-presentations along with its strategies. To find out how food bloggers self-present, this research employed qualitative approach where semiotic analysis is used to find out the latent meaning based on the text and pictures uploaded on the blog. Purposive sampling is used where a set of criteria and the blog “Eatandtreats” and “Wanderbites!” fulfilled these criteria and posts from June 2016 was analyzed. Research findings show that depending on the context, food bloggers selfpresent differently. While reviewing food or internalizing their role as food bloggers, self-presentation tend to be positive. However, when detached from the role of food blogger, as an individual they tend to self-present not as positively thus creating slight inconsistency./ Dengan adanya new media dan dukungan dari internet, memperkenalkan komunikasi yang dimediasi komputer dimana manusia dapat berkomunikasi dengan mudah dan cepat. Adanya perubahan ini membuat manusia dapat meng-upload karya, gambar, video dan blog adalah salah satu wujud-nya. Food Blog adalah salah satu jenis blog yang populer dimana food blogger memberi ulasan dan foto tentang pengalaman kuliner mereka. Akan tetapi, walaupun didominasi oleh isi yang memuat tentang kuliner, food blogger juga mengelola kesan yang diinginkan lewat presentasidiri beserta strategi-strateginya. Untuk mengetahui bagaimana presentasi diri food blogger, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dimana analisis semiotika digunakan untuk mengupas makna tersembunyi dari teks dan gambar yang terdapat di food blog. Menggunakan purposive sampling, peneliti merumuskan kriteria dan blog “Eatandtreats” dan “Wanderbites!” memenuhi kriteria tersebut dimana peneliti mengkaji postingan pada bulan Juni 2016. Dari hasil penelitian, ditemuka bahwa food blogger, dalam konteks tertentu mempresentasikan diri mereka berbeda. Saat food blogger sebagai individu yang sedang mengulas makanan dan menginternalisasikan peran mereka sebagai food blogger mereka cenderung mempresentasikan diri yang positif. Sedangkan saat food blogger melepas dari identitas mereka sebagai food blogger mereka cenderung mempresentasikan diri mereka tidak se-positif seperti saat mereka tidak melepas identitas food blogger mereka, maka dengan itu terdapat sedikit inkonsistensi.
