Abstract

Google at the beginning was present with search engine as a campus project be able to evolve work method and performance of search engine at the time. In the relatively short time Google capable to attract millions of search engine user around the world who need about information, and in the end Google be crown as number one and the biggest search site in the world by the various institution. Innovation that done by Google not just stop until here, proof that until now the service of web services which offered by Google are the broadest start from Google Mail until Google Earth. Among Google competitors the most aggressive who intend to dominate web services industry is software domination Microsoft. Microsoft realize that web services which offered by MSN (Microsoft Network) can't compete with Google and even MSN's market share is far behind with Google. To handle that problem, Microsoft launch the new product as the next generation of MSN that is Windows Live. The result of comparing between the service that Google offers with Windows Live, show that from the various aspect Windows Live able to compete with Google. However the next coming is still worth to watch, is Windows Live able to dominate web services industry and share the market share with Google. The analysis result in using SWOT method Google strategy to face Microsoft and the others, as well as the chances that there are in web services industry produce the following thinking : create the next search engine, launch office application and mobile devices, expand web services and advertising online network, working together with PC (personal computer) producer, support open source community, launch browser application, increase site indexing, increase the utilizing of webbased application, upgrade the ability of Google Toolbar, acquisition of Teoma.com, Mooter.com, and Kartoo.com, keep the loyalty of users, and make the better system in tracking advertising online crime. / Google yang pada awalnya hadir dengan mesin pencarian sebagai sebuah proyek kampus mampu untuk mengevolusi cara kerja dan kinerja mesin pencariaan pada saat itu. Dalam waktu yang relatif singkat Google mampu menyedot jutaan pengguna mesin pencarian di seluruh dunia yang haus akan informasi, dan pada akhirnya Google dinobatkan sebagai situs pencarian nomor wahid dan terbesar di dunia oleh berbagai institusi. Inovasi yang dilakukan Google tidak hanya berhenti sampai disini, terbukti hingga kini layanan web services yang ditawarkan Google adalah yang terluas mulai dari Google Mail sampai Google Earth. Diantara para pesaing Google yang paling agresif hendak menguasai industri web services adalah penguasa software Microsoft. Microsoft menyadari bahwa web services yang ditawarkan melalui MSN (Microsoft Network) tidak dapat bersaing dengan Google dan bahkan MSN jauh tertinggal segmen pasarnya dengan Google. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, Microsoft meluncurkan produk baru sebagai generasi penerus MSN yakni Windows Live. Hasil perbandingan antara layanan yang ditawarkan Google dengan Windows Live, menunjukan bahwa dari berbagai aspek Windows Live mampu bersaing dengan Google. Namun kedepannya masih patut untuk disimak, apakah Windows Live mampu untuk menguasai industri web services dan berbagi segmen pasar dengan Google. Hasil analisa dengan menggunakan metode SWOT strategi Google dalam menghadapi Microsoft dan yang lainnya, serta peluang-peluang yang ada pada industri web services menghasilkan pemikiran berikut : menciptakan mesin pencarian generasi mendatang, meluncurkan aplikasi perkantoran dan mobile devices, memperluas web services dan jaringan periklanan online, bekerjasama dengan para produsen PC (personal computer), mendukung komunitas open source, meluncurkan aplikasi browser, memperbanyak pengindeksan situs, meningkatkan penggunaan aplikasi berbasis web, meng-upgrade kemampuan Google Toolbar, mengakusisi Teoma.com, Mooter.com, fan Kartoo.com, menjaga loyalitas para pengguna, dan membuat sistem yang lebih baik dalam melacak kejahatan periklanan online.
