Abstract

QR Code Encoder system is a system that converts input data characters into QR Code image. QR Code is widely applied in advertising, accessing website, and product pricing tag. QR Code is commonly used in Japan, but has not been popular in Indonesia. In the future, QR Code would become the new matrix barcode symbol replacing barcode. QR Code Encoder system deals with text input in the form binary, alphanumeric, and Byte. The process begins with converting input text into codewords, inserting error correcting codewords by applying Reed Solomon algorithm, and allocating the data in binary representation into a module bitmap in matrix form. This thesis covers an example of application for creating students' name cards. Salt and Pepper Noise and image effects (blurred, torned, flipped, mirrorred, and rotated) would then be applied to distort QR Code images to prove the level of decodability of the system. A series of tests results in 100 % success rate of displaying all 40 versions of QR Code. The effect of Pepper and Salt Noise is relative depending on the module size, version, and intensity of the noise applied to the image. QR Code can still be decoded regardless of the degree of image rotation. The result also shows that the omnidirectional property of QR Code is proven. However, QR Code cannot be read when it is either flip or mirrored, but can be decoded if both flip and mirrored.
