Abstract

Salah satu sikap penting yang harus dimiliki seorang perawat di dalam komunikasi adalah empati, karena empati memudahkan perawat dalam berkomunikasi dan memahami apa yang menjadi kebutuhan pasien. Dari hasil observasi yang dilakukan di 2 poli klinik rawat jalan di satu Rumah Sakit Swasta Indonesia bagian Tengah pada bulan Februari 2018 sampai bulan Maret 2018 ditemukan ketika kunjungan pasien di klinik rawat jalan sedang ramai perawat menjadi kurang komunikatif dan tidak lagi memberikan dukungan moril kepada pasien. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara gaya mendengar dengan perilaku empati pada perawat. Menggunakan tipe penelitian deskriptif korelasi dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi penelitian adalah 32 perawat di ruang poli klinik rawat jalan di satu rumah sakit swasta Indonesia bagian Tengah dengan teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan total sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah kuesioner The Listening Styles Profile-Revised (LSP-R) untuk mengukur gaya mendengar dengan nilai Alpha Cronbach 0,786 dan Toronto Empathy Questionnaire untuk mengukur empati dengan nilai Alpha Cronbach 0,824 yang telah diterjemahkan kedalam bahasa Indonesia. Hasil uji chi-square menunjukan bahwa tidak hubungan antara gaya mendengar dengan perilaku empati pada perawat di satu Rumah Sakit Swasta Indonesia bagian Tengah. Empati sangat penting bagi perawat dan juga bagi kepuasan pasien sehingga perlu mencari faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi perilaku empati perawat = One important attitude that must be owned by a nurse in communication is empathy, because empathy makes it easier for nurses to communicate and understand what the patient needs. From the results of observations conducted in 2 out-patient department in one of the private hospitals in Central Indonesia in February 2018 to March 2018, it was found that when the patients’ visit were crowded, nurses became less communicative and unable to give moral support to patients. This study aims to see the relationship between listening style and empathy behavior in nurses using descriptive correlation research type with cross sectional approach. The study population was 32 nurses in the out-patient department in one private hospital in Central Indonesia with sampling techniques of total sampling. The instrument used was The Listening Styles Profile-Revised questionnaire (LSP-R) to measure listening style with Alpha Cronbach score of 0.786 and the Toronto Empathy Questionnaire to measure empathy with the Alpha Cronbach score 0.824 which was translated into Indonesian. The results of the Chi-square test showed that there was no relationship between listening style and empathy behavior in nurses at one of the private hospitals in Central Indonesia. Empathy is very important for nurses and for patients’ satisfaction, so it is necessary to look for factors that influence nurses' empathy behavior.
