Abstract
The film Predestination (2014) has many achievements in the form of international awards and has a high rating and creates an astonishing impression for most of the audience. There are several studies that examine the film from various fields of science and viewpoints. However, of the many studies on the film, there has been no research from the field of Communication Science which intends to analyze the meaning of predestination to be conveyed to the audience through the film. This research is a qualitative descriptive method with a content analysis approach using Roland Barthes' semiotics. Through the semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes, it is found that predestination according to the film Predestination (2014) is a way of life or destiny that cannot be changed so that the opposition to predestination has zero probability, where human will cannot influence the predestination and cannot change it as big or small as possible. whatever action is taken. Suggestions for further research, are expected to be more careful and focus on indigenous cultures according to the object of research or can be developed using objects in the form of films, television series, and the like produced by Indonesia or Eastern culture.
