Abstract
The modern era competition of global countries over the control of natural resources has increased the threat to world security, including in the Indo-Pacific region. Ranging from Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean and the land area within, this region includes many important countries that can contribute to maintaining the geopolitical stability and security of the region. Indonesia, through its defense diplomacy strategy that focuses on the military sector, is expected to play a key role in eradicating various traditional and non-traditional transnational security threats in the Southeast Asia region, as it is also an important part of the Indo-Pacific region. By using historical research methods, this research will explain how Indonesia's national interest to improve its military quality in order to maintain national security and become an influential country in the Indo-Pacific region can be achieved through Indonesia's diplomatic participation in the Indo-Pacific region along with various opportunities and challenges that emerge. This research will also describe how Indonesia deal with those challenges such as the lack of military capability and security threats in the Indo-Pacific, as well as taking advantage of the opportunities in the world's geopolitical dynamics to become an important actor in the Indo-Pacific region, such as its position as the largest archipelagic country in the Indo-Pacific region, and utilizes its principle of a free and active foreign policy.
