Abstract
This final projecy will adapt a Historical-epic printed comic, Suryaraka by Ockto Baringbing and Ary. C.S into an motion comic/interactive comic prototype. The purpose of this adaptation is to recontextualize a printed comic into a digital one, and examine the similarity and differences between the 2 mediums. The purpose is also to retell an historical epic into a digital storytelling devices. This prototype is focused on how animation can enhance dramatic and action narratives, how those dichotomy can determine the animation’s complexity, and how panel’s and layout’s size, distance, duration can change according to the narrative. Timeframing theory by Erik Loyer functions as the project’s main theory. The method of this project includes interview with motion comic expert, and case-studying motion comics that follows the Timeframing theory. The visual aspects of this projects focuses on the application of animation on obejcts inside the panel (diagetic), and the panel itself (non-diagetic). These animations are mostly looped, and their complexities are determined by how action-oriented or dramatic-oriented a page is. From this project, a new perspective and knowledge about motion comics are found, and how it differentiates from printed form of comics.
