Abstract
The fungus that causes infection on human skin is the fungus Trichophyton
mentagrophytes. Synthetic treatment that is often used in the treatment of infectious diseases is usually in the form of modern therapeutic drugs, but these drugs have toxic effects that cause unwanted side effects and can even cause resistance. Therefore, the use of African leaves (Vernonia amygdalina Dell.) empirically is often used by people in a simple processing by boiling African leaves (Vernonia
amygdalina Dell.) and then drinking it. This research is a study using an experimental research design accompanied by a literature study. This research includes the process at the preparation stage (plant determination, sampling, making simplicia, simplicia quality test) extraction stage, phytochemical screening. The analysis results obtained from African leaf extract (Vernonia amygdalina Dell.) contain active compounds namely saponins, steroids, and alkaloids. The active compound that has an effective role in African leaves (Vernonia amygdalina Dell.) is saponins due to the nature of saponins derived from a bonding formation of polar saponins with lipoproteins and bonds of non-polar groups with fungalcell cluster bonds which can cause impaired fungal cell membrane permeability, causing death in the fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
