Abstract

Jing He Ping atau dalam kepercayaan Konghucu disebut sebagai sembahyang arwah umum merupakan ritual yang dilakukan untuk menghormati arwah setiap tanggal 15 bulan tujuh penanggalan lunar (kalender Imlek). Jing He Ping menjadi bagian tradisi yang masih dilakukan Masyarakat Cina Benteng Tangerang. Penelitian ini menekankan pemaknaan ritual Jing He Ping di kalangan generasi tua dan generasi muda masyarakat Cina Benteng. Penelitian ini berdasarkan pada paradigma konstruktivisme dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Informan berjumlah tujuh orang yang dipilih secara purposif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, studi dokumentasi, dan studi kepustakaan. Keabsahan data melalui triangulasi sumber. Teknik analisa data melalui model interaktif Miles dan Huberman yang terdiri dari: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemaknaan generasi tua maupun muda masyarakat Cina Benteng pada ritual Jing He Ping didapatkan dari lingkungan keluarga yang menunjukkan Jing He Ping sebagai persembahyangan bagi arwah leluhur maupun arwah umum. Sembahyang Jing He Ping dimaknai sebagai bentuk kewajiban meskipun jika tidak dijalankan maka tidak akan berdampak pada konsekuensi tertentu. Perbedaan mencolok antara generasi tua dan muda dalam memaknai ritual Jing He Ping terletak pada pemaknaan akan simbol-simbol atribut ritual. Generasi muda kurang memahami makna dari simbol-simbol atribut ritual Jing He Ping. Referensi: 33 (1934-2018)/ Jing He Ping (Hungry Ghost Festrival) or in Confucian belief referred to as the general spirit prayer is a ritual performed to honor the spirit on the 15th day of the 7th month of the lunar calendar. Jing He Ping became one of the traditions that is still practiced by Community of Cina Benteng Tangerang. This research emphasizes the process of meaning of Jing He Ping ritual among old and the young generation on Community of Cina Benteng Tangerang. This research is based on constructivism paradigm with qualitative approach. Informants amounted to seven people selected purposively. Techniques of collecting data through interviews, observation, study documentation, and study literature. Validity of data through source triangulation. Data analysis techniques through interactive models Miles and Huberman consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the meanings of the old and young generation of Cina Benteng’s community in Jing He Ping rituals are also obtained from the family which shows it as a spiritual worship. Jing He Ping is interpreted as a liability even if it is not executed it will not affect certain consequences. The striking difference between the old and young generations in the meaning of Jing He Ping ritual lies in the meaning of ritual attribute. The young generation tended to lack the understanding of the symbols of Jing He Ping's ritual attributes.
