Abstract
Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is one type of hot mix asphalt which is designed to maximize resistance to deformation (rutting). HMA requires more durable aggregates, higher asphalt content, and the presence of modified asphalt binders
and fibers. Polymer modified bitumen (PMB) is a type of bitumen which is combined with one or more polymers. These modifications are used to withstand heavy traffic loads and extreme weather conditions. PMB has a lower level of
temperature sensitivity than asphalt in general. The aggregate content in the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixture consists of coarse aggregate (75 – 80 %) and fine
aggregate ± 14% of the total composition of the mixture. Filler is used in the HMA mixture with the aim of filling the air voids contained in the asphalt concrete mixture. Filler content ± 10% of the composition of the mixture. In the process of this research, the asphalt mixture was added with cellulose fiber. This test aims to see the effect of two conditions, namely dry and wet which are tested with a semi circular bending test. In this study, the optimum asphalt content was 7%. The semicircular bending test was carried out at a speed of 0.5 mm/min on specimens that
had not been added fiber and had added 0.3%, 0.4% and 0.5% fiber. The results of the test specimens added with 0.3% fiber experienced an increase in the maximum stress of 19.33%; fracture energy by 32%; fracture toughness by 21%; cracking resistance index of 16%; and critical strain energy release of 27.4%. However, there was a decrease in the flexibility index by 40.4%. So it can be concluded that the
best performance of the asphalt mixture is in the test object which is added with cellulose fiber with a concentration of 0.3%.
