Abstract

Humans develop by communicating through the use of symbols in the form of images and photos to show their identity. Sports lovers generally own and use Instagram social media as a place to present themselves as a runner and as a place to interpret their running activities. This thesis will discuss how the form of self runner presentation that is built through social media Instagram and what the meaning of running activities. This study uses a qualitative approach with virtual ethnographic research methods. Research data collection was carried out by direct observation of the ten Instagram social media accounts and conducting interviews with ten informants as research subjects. The results showed that the speakers used Instagram as a place to present themselves as a runner through profile photo display and consistency in uploading pictures and photos related to running activities. The self presentation was aimed at gaining self-recognition as an agent for spreading healthy lifestyles, to display the impression that they are human beings who always live in a healthy lifestyle, to display the benefits of running activities, and to display pride as a runner. / Manusia berkembang dengan cara berkomunikasi lewat penggunaan simbolsimbol berupa gambar dan foto untuk menunjukkan identitas diri. Para pecinta olahraga lari pada umumnya memiliki dan menggunakan media sosial Instagram sebagai tempat untuk mempresentasikan diri sebagai seorang runner dan sebagai tempat untuk memaknai aktivitas berlari yang mereka lakukan. Tesis ini akan membahas bagaimana bentuk presentasi diri runner yang dibangun melalui media sosial Instagram dan apa makna dari aktivitas berlari. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian etnografi virtual. Pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan dengan cara observasi langsung terhadap kesepuluh akun media sosial Instagram dan pelaksanaan wawancara bersama sepuluh orang narasumber sebagai subjek penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para narasumber menggunakan Instagram sebagai tempat untuk mempresentasikan diri sebagai seorang runner yaitu lewat tampilan foto profil serta konsistensi dalam mengunggah gambar serta foto terkait aktivitas berlari. Presentasi diri yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk mendapatkan pengakuan diri sebagai seorang agen penyebar gaya hidup sehat, untuk menampilkan kesan bahwa mereka adalah manusia yang senantiasa hidup dalam gaya hidup sehat, untuk menampilkan manfaat dari aktivitas berlari, serta untuk menampilkan kebanggaan diri sebagai seorang runner.
