Abstract
An increase in the number of productive age population in Jakarta has a significant impact on improving the economy. This is due to the emergence of challenges where residents will compete for jobs and result in the growth of businesses, self-employed, and freelancers. Therefore, the need for office space will increase, as well as office rental prices in Jakarta. With the availability of social networks, complete facilities, and cheaper rental prices, coworking spaces are a superior solution compared to conventional offices. However, even though there are several co-working spaces in Jakarta, very few pay attention to the psychological factors of users towards the design of spaces to support user activities. The coworking space that will be used as a design case study is CoHive that is based in Indonesia. CoHive has a goal to provide flexible workspaces, business services and networking for entrepreneurs and startups with a commitment to increase the productivity, creativity, and social network of its users. In this case study of coworking space design, the research technique used is a biomimicry approach that uses nature as a model to address existing problems in the environment. This approach is carried out by observing and imitating the shape, style, or way of life of a specific creature, such as butterflies, before translating it into a design concept that can solve problems in previous designs. CoHive's interior design that responds to psychology of space towards users through a butterfly biomimicry approach is proven to be able to hone skills to increase creativity, guarantee comfort to encourage productivity, motivate through nature to support social interaction between different characteristics of users therefore reflecting the commitment of the company. The design of this office has also adapted to the characteristics of millennial users, who are predominantly from creative industries to accommodate various user needs.
