Abstract

Laporan tugas akhir ini disusun untuk menjabarkan cara lain dalam menyajikan album Tulus yang berjudul Monokrom dengan lebih menarik dan membantu penyampaian pesan setiap lagunya melalui medium ilustrasi. Pemilihan album tersebut didorong oleh keunikan lirik dan keberagaman aransemen musik yang sekiranya berpotensi menghasilkan tampilan berbagai ilustrasi secara lebih eksploratif. Album Monokrom akan divisualisasikan menjadi buku lirik berilustrasi yang akan dikemas beserta dengan CD-nya sebagai bentuk album baru yang lebih terkesan premium dan atraktif. Keberadaan ilustrasi berperan sebagai medium komunikasi visual yang memberikan kejelasan akan informasi, membangkitkan emosi dan menggugah ketertarikan. Visual yang dirancang dapat memperkuat identitas, pesan, dan suasana yang terasa dari setiap lagu pada album Monokrom. Perancangan ini akan mengaplikasikan teori semiotika dari Charles Sanderrs Peirce (ikon, indeks, simbol) untuk memahami lirik lagu album Monokrom secara lebih mendalam. Komponen dan unsur musik yang membangun suasana tertentu pada lagu akan dianalisis melalui wawancara dengan narasumber ahli. Perancangan akan berfokus untuk melakukan eksperimen akan eksplorasi bentuk ilustrasi sebagai medium visualisasi yang mengkomunikasikan arti dari masing-masing lagu pada album. Keseluruhan proses perancangan dilakukan dalam lima tahapan besar yang mencakup riset, pengumpulan data, brainstorming, eksplorasi desain dan finalisasi rancangan visual. Pembahasan perancangan ini akan meliputi ranah bidang ilustrasi desain grafis dan desain komunikasi visual. / This final paper is constructed to elaborate on an alternative way to present Tulus' album Monokrom in a more appealing way and conveying the message of each song through illustration as the medium. The album was chosen due to the distinct and unique lyrics and the variety of musical compositions used which has potential to be produced into different illustration exploratively. The Monokrom album will be visualized as an illustrated lyric book, packaged along with the CD, giving a more premium and attractive feel to it. Illustrations play a role as a visual communication tool, providing direct clarity to information, evoking certain emotions, and arousing interest. Designing the visuals could strengthen the identity, message, and characteristics of each song on the Monokrom album. This project refers to Charles Sanders Peirce’s theory of semiotics (icon, index, symbol) to further understand the lyrics of each song from the album. Components and elements of music contributing to a certain tone and feel in the song will be analyzed through interviews with expert sources. This project aims on experimenting with the exploration of illustration form as a medium that visualizes the meaning of each song on the album. The entire design process is carried out in five major stages which include research, compiling data, brainstorming ideas, visual exploration, and design finalization. The scope of this project will cover the field of illustration, graphic design, and visual communication design.
