Abstract

It is important to have high skilled workers in the tourism industry in order to fulfil customer satisfaction. Workers in the hospitality industry should get a specific job training based on their job as it will create a better reputation for the hotel. The need for training no matter where you stand in the education level is crucial, especially in an industry that requires skilled workers with proper training and knowledge. There are workers in the hospitality in Indonesia that mostly comes from vocational schools, which triggers a gap from the expectation of the hospitality industry and the curriculum of the vocational school. It is observed that Gema Gawita Vocational High School does not offer classes regarding communication skills in the front office department in a hotel. Therefore, the purpose of this community service was to give a training session for the students at Gema Gawita Vocational School regarding the communication skills that are needed in the front office department. The result of the training program is evaluated using a pre – test and post – test that is distributed to the participants. The result found a significant and positive effect of the training program which is seen in the comparison of the result of the pre – test and post – test and by the feedback form that is distributed.
