Abstract

Complaints of Neck and Shoulder Pain is common particularly among university students with intensive computer use. This paper reviews the association, data, and factors that will present the correlation between both variables, particularly in students of Universitas Pelita Harapan. The purpose of this research is to assess the association between computer usage and complaints of neck and shoulder pain among students of Universitas Pelita Harapan, as well as to compare and investigate any potential difference between the students of Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Information System. This research is a diagnostic test using a cross-sectional method. Sample size calculation was done using the categorical comparative analytical formula and a result of 36 samples were obtained for each population. There are several questionnaires regarding workstation environments and upper extremity pain that will be used, including: Maastricht Upper Extremities Questionnaire (Beikari et al. 2011), Musculoskeletal Discomfort Form based on The Nordic Questionnaire (Kourinka et al. 1987) and OSHA VDT Checklist (OSHA, 1997). Research data will be tabulated using Microsoft Excel 2013. Statistical analysis is going to be performed using the SPSS 23 program. Bivariate analysis of the research on 72 respondents revealed that there is no significant association between position or duration towards neck and shoulder pain (p>0.05). However, position is a risk factor for neck (OR=4.846) and shoulder pain (OR=2.514). Duration is also a risk factor for neck (OR=1.421) and shoulder pain (OR=2.333). There is also no significant association between the difference of the two faculties towards neck and shoulder pain. (p>0.05). Position and duration of computer usage increases the risk of having neck and shoulder pain among students. There are more students in Faculty of Medicine than students in Faculty of Information System who have neck and shoulder pain / Keluhan nyeri leher dan bahu sangat umum terjadi pada kalangan mahasiswa yang menggunakan perangkat komputer. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menguraikan asosiasi, data, dan faktor-faktor yang dapat menjelaskan korelasi antara kedua variable tersebut, khususnya pada mahasiswa Universitas Pelita Harapan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan posisi dan durasi penggunaan komputer terhadap keluhan nyeri leher dan bahu, dan membandingkan apakah ada perbedaan antara mahasiswa dari 2 jurusan yang berbeda, yaitu mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran dan Fakultas Sistem Informasi Universitas Pelita Harapan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian uji diagnostik dengan metode potong lintang. Banyak sampel penelitian dihitung menggunakan rumus analitik komparatif kategorik tidak berpasangan, dengan hasil sejumlah 36 sampel untuk masingmasing populasi. Bahan yang akan digunakan untuk penelitian ini adalah kuisioner, antara lain Maastricht Upper Extremities Questionnaire (Beikari et al. 2011), Musculoskeletal Discomfort Form berdasarkan The Nordic Questionnaire (Kourinka et al. 1987) dan OSHA VDT Checklist (OSHA, 1997). Data penelitian akan ditabulasi menggunakan Microsoft Excel 2010. Analisis statistik akan dilakukan dengan program SPSS versi 23. Hasil analisis bivariat dari 72 responden menyatakan bahwa posisi maupun durasi penggunaan komputer tidak memiliki hubungan signifikan dengan nyeri leher dan bahu (p>0.05). Posisi merupakan faktor resiko penyebab nyeri leher (OR=4.846) dan bahu (OR=2.514). Durasi merupakan faktor resiko penyebab nyeri leher (OR=1.421) dan bahu (OR=2.333). Tidak ada hubungan signifikan antara kedua fakultas dengan terjadinya nyeri leher dan bahu pada mahasiswa (p>0.05). Posisi dan durasi penggunaan komputer meningkatkan resiko terjadinya nyeri leher dan bahu pada mahasiswa. Kejadian nyeri leher dan bahu lebih tinggi pada populasi mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokeran dibandingkan dengan mahasiswa Fakultas Sistem Informasi.
