Abstract

Background: Pes Planus is an anatomical foot shape where the medial longitudinal arch of the foot is covered by layers of fat in such a way that it gives an appearance of a flat foot sole when standing. This condition is physiologic in children and eventually will disappear on its own as the child ages, develop and grow. If this condition persists, it may cause several problems such as delay in walking in children. A child is said to have a delay in walking condition if he/she fails to walk independently without help until above the age of 18 months. Prior research found a link between pes planus and problems in walking but did not mention delay in walking as one of the problem specifically. Aim: This research aims to figure out if there is truly a relationship between pes planus and delay in walking in children. Research Method: This study uses a cross sectional design and consecutive technique sampling. Data is retrieved from children age 5-6 years old from three schools in Tangerang using primary data collection. Results: From a total of 120 respondents, 41 children had pes planus and 9 children among them had delay in walking, while the rest of 79 children had normal arch with only 2 of them had delay in walking. Research analysis shows significant result, where p = 0,001 and OR = 10,828. Conclusion: There is a meaningful relationship between pes planus and delay in walking / Latar belakang: Pes Planus merupakan bentuk anatomis kaki di mana arkus medial longitudinal tertutup oleh timbunan lemak sehingga memberikan penampakan telapak kaki yang datar tanpa arkus pada saat berdiri.
