Abstract
In this globalization era, the use of soft diplomacy is very effective and could create a long-term effect on US-China diplomatic relations. One of key tool for the United States’ soft diplomacy is Hollywood movies. For economic purposes, Hollywood targeting China as its movie expansion due to the fact that China’s movie market is the second-largest movie market in the world, just under the United States. But, to enter China’s movie market, there are some efforts that need to be done by the United States, those are creating a Chinese-friendly movie and co-production movie. Not only economic, the United States’ interest in this movie cooperation is to strengthening its image to China through Hollywood movies by channeling its ideology to China’s movie market. This research aims to analyze how the United States’ soft diplomacy through Hollywood movies could strengthening both countries’ bilateral relationships. Moreover, this research applies descriptive method with qualitative approach. Thus, through this research, I found that Hollywood-China movie cooperation could become the antidote of U.S.-China tension and a tool to improve both the economy through movie industry.
