Abstract

According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2017, the number of visually impaired individuals in Indonesia ranks second in the world. Most of them require assistance in their daily activities, resulting in a high level of dependency. This is due to the lack of supportive facilities around them to facilitate the identification process. A temporary solution to address this issue is the provision of labels by assistants that can only be seen by sighted individuals on specific items. However, this solution does not address the dependency issue among visually impaired individuals, as assistance is still required. Therefore, an affordable and ready-to-use inclusive Braille labeling system is needed to reduce dependency issues and improve the efficiency of daily activities for both assistants and visually impaired individuals. The product design process involves observation and interviews with the visually impaired community, followed by market research on similar products in Indonesia. Subsequently, data analysis using the QFD method is utilized to understand the issues, identify needs, and support decision-making in designing an identification product based on the principles of ability-based design, resulting in a Braille label maker tool.
