Abstract

This research aims to explore architectural typologies that can enhance the quality of public space as a retail therapy area in Pondok Ranji. The modern lifestyle and rapid urbanization have become a global phenomenon, posing significant challenges to mental health. Retail therapy can help support mental health. By understanding the elements of retail therapy, such as entrance, movement, social experience, sensorial experience, cognitive experience, and pragmatic experience, we are able to determine the ideas and solutions behind architectural typologies for mental health by observing the psychological mechanisms of humans towards retail therapy and transitional spaces. Through the study of existing typologies with the aim of mental health, this research will seek architectural solutions for an urban environment. Spatial interventions will be conducted within the contexts of transitional spaces, commercial space, and urban areas. This research will focus on studying human behaviour towards space by exploring the impact of transitional elements on humans and the environment. The study will be conducted in two phases: through literature and precedent studies, followed by observational studies on site surveys and analysis. The results of the analysis will serve as the basis for developing the design of public commercial space to support mental health. In this research, the resulting strategies include program development, zoning arrangements, and exploration of transitional elements. Programs design aim to optimize the function of retail therapy area, while zoning focuses on user experience. Transitional elements are carefully designed to ensure continuity and cohesion between zones, creating an atmosphere that supports and enriches the overall retail therapy experience.
