Abstract

Tinea pedis is a skin disease with the highest prevalence in Indonesia caused by the fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Chinese ketepeng leaves (Cassia alata L) are plants that live in tropical countries such as Indonesia which are often used by the community as a treatment for skin diseases. Chinese ketepeng leaves contain alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, and tannin compounds, which are thought to have antifungal activity. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the antifungal activity of 70% ethanol extract of Chinese ketepeng leaves against the growth of Trichophyton mentagrophytes fungus and determine the significant difference of each concentration in inhibiting the growth of Trichophyton mentagrophytes fungus. The method used in this study is the well diffusion method and uses PDA (potato dextrose agar) media. The concentration variations used were 75%, 60%, 45%, 30%. Ketoconazole 1 mg/ml was used as positive control, while DMSO 10% was used as negative control. Based on the test results, it can be concluded that Chinese ketepeng leaves (Cassia alata L) have antifungal activity against Trichophyton mentagrophytes fungi with the most optimal extract concentration is at a concentration of 75%, but this concentration is still ineffective against inhibition of Trichophyton mentagrophytes fungal growth. The inhibition power of each extract concentration has a significant difference with positive control and negative control. However, between 60% and 45% extract concentrations there was no significant difference.
