Abstract

City branding berperan penting dalam membentuk identitas dan daya tarik suatu kota melalui karakteristik unik yang membedakannya dari kota lain, sehingga dapat menarik wisatawan, investor, dan meningkatkan ekonomi lokal. Sebagai kota dengan berbagai potensi, termasuk statusnya sebagai Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus dan destinasi wisata bahari, Kota Bitung membutuhkan strategi branding baru untuk memperkuat citranya setelah mengalami tantangan di sektor perikanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana pemerintah Kota Bitung mengembangkan citra kota sebagai destinasi wisata, terutama setelah penurunan sektor perikanan yang menjadi andalan ekonomi kota. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini mengumpulkan data melalui wawancara dengan pemangku kepentingan, analisis dokumen, dan observasi terkait strategi branding yang diterapkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemerintah Kota Bitung telah merumuskan dan melaksanakan strategi city branding dengan memanfaatkan potensi alam dan budaya lokal. Identitas baru sebagai "Kota Wisata" diharapkan dapat menarik wisatawan dan investor, serta memperbaiki perekonomian daerah. Penelitian ini juga menyoroti pentingnya kolaborasi antara pemerintah, masyarakat, dan sektor swasta dalam membangun citra kota yang positif dan berkelanjutan. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi bagi pengembangan ilmu komunikasi, khususnya dalam konteks pemasaran kota, dan memberikan saran bagi pemerintah daerah dalam memperkuat city branding untuk meningkatkan daya tarik wisatawan / City branding plays an important role in shaping the identity and attractiveness of a city through unique characteristics that distinguish it from other cities, so as to attract tourists, investors, and boost the local economy. As a city with various potentials, including its status as a Special Economic Zone and marine tourism destination, Bitung City needs a new branding strategy to strengthen its image after experiencing challenges in the fisheries sector. This research aims to analyze how the Bitung City government is developing the city's image as a tourist destination, especially after the decline of the fisheries sector that became the mainstay of the city's economy. Using a qualitative approach, this study collected data through interviews with stakeholders, document analysis, and observations related to the branding strategy implemented. The results show that the Bitung City government has formulated and implemented a city branding strategy by utilizing the potential of nature and local culture. The new identity as a “Tourism City” is expected to attract tourists and investors, and improve the regional economy. This research also highlights the importance of collaboration between the government, the community and the private sector in building a positive and sustainable city image. Thus, this research contributes to the development of communication science, especially in the context of city marketing, and provides suggestions for local governments in strengthening city branding to increase tourist attraction.
