Abstract

Young adults tend to experience higher death anxiety compared to other age groups, which can negatively affect their well-being. Therefore, it is important to examine the factors that contribute to death anxiety. Religiosity is a factor often associated with death anxiety, while the personality trait of neuroticism tends to worsen negative responses to death. Additionally, Buddhism views death as part of the cyclical process of reincarnation, providing a unique perspective on understanding death. This study aims to investigate the contributions of religiosity and the personality trait of neuroticism to death anxiety among young Buddhist adults in the Greater Jakarta area. The study used convenience sampling and snowball sampling techniques to select participants. A total of 255 participants were analyzed using multiple regression. The results showed that the dimensions of religiosity (believing, bonding, behaving, belonging) did not significantly contribute to death anxiety among young Buddhist adults in Jabodetabek. In contrast, the personality trait of neuroticism was found to have a positive and significant contribution to death anxiety. This study is expected to enrich the understanding of the role of religion and personality in influencing death anxiety, particularly among young adults in Greater Jakarta.
