Abstract
Sandwich generation refers to a situation where individuals are caught between two generations, carrying the unique responsibility of caring for both their older and younger family members. This condition can trigger conflict when having to balance various roles at the same time. The difficult conditions experienced by the sandwich generation can affect psychological conditions, leading to stress and negative emotions. As a result, the sandwich generation needs the ability to recover from these challenging situations, one of which involves emotion regulation. This study aims to examine the influence of emotion regulation on resilience, specifically the strategies of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression, among the sandwich generation in Java Island. The research uses a quantitative method with convenience sampling and snowball sampling techniques. The measuring instrument in this study used the Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) 25. The subjects in this study consisted of 101 males and 126 females. In this study, it was found that cognitive reappraisal predicted the resilience by 10.1% and expressive suppression by 1.7%. Then, there is a significant difference in the use of expressive suppression strategies based on gender with a significance value of 0.003 (p<0.05). In addition, there is a significant difference in resilience based on gender with a significance value of 0.004 (p<0.05).
