Abstract
Students who return to their home country after studying abroad often experience feeling foreign and require readaptation to their home culture. This re-entry experience, known as reverse culture shock, is seen as an unexpected challenge by many returnees. This research aims to investigate the relationship between Mattering to Peers and Reverse Culture Shock among Indonesian students who returned to Indonesia after studying abroad. Quantitative data was collected using Mattering to Peers Scale (MTPS) and Reverse Culture Shock Scale (RCSS) by distributing questionnaires. Participants of this research are 100 returnees who came back to Indonesia post to their study abroad, with age ranging from 17 to 40. The result shows a significantly negative correlation between Mattering to Peers and Reverse Culture Shock (r (100) = -.524***, p < .001). The strongest correlation is found between awareness and reverse culture shock, among other dimensions of mattering to peers. Higher mattering to peers score has the strongest association with grief in reverse culture shock. According to the findings, students who returned to Indonesia after studying abroad require help in developing perception of significance toward their peers, which can be done by helping them connect to a caring and supportive social network./
